Osseous SurgeryIn Fontana

Stop gum disease before it costs you your smile
When gum disease reaches an advanced stage, it can cause deep pockets of infection around your teeth. These pockets can’t be cleaned with brushing, flossing, or even standard dental cleanings — which is where osseous surgery comes in. Also called “flap surgery,” this treatment removes the infection, reshapes damaged bone, and creates a healthy environment so your gums can reattach to your teeth.

Why we’re the go-to choice for osseous surgery
Specialized periodontal expertise
Dr. Boehm is a board-certified periodontist which means he has advanced training in both the surgical and regenerative aspects of treating gum disease.
Pocket reduction with precision
We don’t just remove infection, we carefully smooth and reshape the bone to make it easier for your gums to heal and stay healthy.
Focus on long-term results
By eliminating bacteria and improving gum attachment, osseous surgery greatly reduces the risk of future bone loss and tooth loss.
Here's what you can expect
Comprehensive Evaluation
Your journey begins with a detailed periodontal exam, including X-rays and pocket depth measurements. This helps us identify the areas of gum disease that require surgical treatment and create a personalized plan for you.
Local Anesthesia and Preparation
To ensure your comfort, the area is numbed with local anesthesia. Once you’re fully comfortable, the gums are gently lifted to allow access to the tooth roots and bone underneath.
Cleaning and Reshaping
We carefully remove bacterial deposits, tartar, and damaged tissue from around the teeth. If needed, the underlying bone is smoothed or reshaped to eliminate defects and create a more stable foundation for the gums.
Suturing and Healing
The gums are repositioned and sutured into place so they can heal properly around the teeth. A protective dressing may be applied to aid comfort and healing. Over the following weeks, your gums will reattach more tightly to the teeth, reducing pocket depths and improving long-term oral health.

You’ll be completely numb during the procedure, and sedation is available if you prefer. Most patients describe only mild soreness afterward, which can be managed with over-the-counter medication.
Initial healing usually takes 1–2 weeks. We’ll give you clear instructions for brushing, eating, and rinsing to protect the surgical site while it heals.
The gums will be snugger around your teeth, which may make the teeth appear slightly longer. This is normal and a sign of healthier gum attachment.
